Additional Details
The advanced linearization technologies result in asignificant decrease in the power consumption of the PowerAmplifier and therefore reduced heat dissipation. This ultimately results in a longer lifetime of the product, a lowerenergy bill and fewer requirements for climate control. TheR-8050 is designed for continuous duty.
The R-8050 offers two-way receiver diversity with an optionfor three-way diversity. This considerably improves the radiocoverage of the RF subsystem, especially for networks in which a large number of portables is used.
The integrated transmission network component provides aV.11 interface for 64 or 128 kbps. This is the preferredtransmission link for local connection of an R-8050 to a TNXor TNX-EL. The transmission link to (remote) base stationsites can be implemented using the TetraNode eXchangePlatform (TEP) rack and the TEP interface cards for G.703,ISDN and E1/T1. Optional transmission link redundancyfeatures are included in the TEP architecture to allowcontinuous operation in case line failures occur. Each R-8050 only requires 32 kbps of transmission capa-city, which is the lowest utilization of transmission linksavailable in the industry. This low data rate does not reducethe capacity or performance of the R-8050 in any way.
The R-8050 uses the TetraNode Streaming Protocol (TNSP)transmission protocol, featuring low delay and low transmis-sion overhead. The Plug & Play mechanism in TNSP simplifies installation and maintenance considerably.
Extensive maintenance features are included to allowremote configuration, fault finding and firmware uploads. Upto three versions of software may be installed in the R-8050.
This allows for quick and synchronized switch-over to newerreleases of the R-8050 firmware, without the need to visitthe sites. Previous versions of the firmware can also be activated in a matter of seconds in case problems arise.
The maintenance features are operated over the transmis-sion link, enabling remote operation of these functions viathe Network Management System (NMS). The maintenance functions are non-intrusive, providing the lowest possiblenetwork disturbance in case of maintenance.
The front panel LEDs allow on-site monitoring of the R-8050operation. The blue Sync LED shows the status of thetransmission link to the TNX or TNX-EL, while the white Busy LED shows whether the R-8050 receives uplinktransmission bursts. The 5x7 dot matrix display shows the operational status.
The R-8050 requires connection to an R-855 TETRASynchronization Unit (TBS-SYN) for the purpose of timingand synchronization. The TBS-SYN includes a high stability Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO), that is regularlycalibrated with GPS or Glonass satellites. For locationswithout GPS or Glonass coverage, an optional ultra-stable OXCO can be applied, that needs no further calibration.
One TBS-SYN serves as timing reference for up to eighttransceivers per base station site.
Fallback operation of the base station site can be obtainedwith the optional R-815 Fallback Site Controller (FSC). TheFSC provides basic TETRA functionality, allowing continuous operation with local site trunking when the transmissionlink to the serving TNX or TNX-EL is not available.
